MOVING DAY

Wellsir, I'm packing up and moving this here blog to greener pastures. Blogger was once a solid choice, but development seems to have really ground to halt over the past few years. I'm thinking Tumblr will be a more exciting and flexible home.

Tumblr is super customizable and a lot easier to work with from the back end, and hopefully will be more pleasant to browse from the front. I've had a Tumblog for a while now, Web Booty, where I post weird stuff I come across on the internet, and I really like the simplicity of the platform. I'm still working on implementing comments, which is kind of a pain, but hopefully it'll be sorted out eventually. You can find the new blog here:

I've been pretty busy with school and moving lately, so I haven't had much time for drawing. Here are some doodles from earlier today, except the last one which is from a few weeks ago (refs from OK Cupid).

Just messing around, trying out some different techniques. After using ZBrush for a few days, I'm really wishing Adobe would incorporate similarly innovative features into Photoshop, especially something akin to the 'lazy mouse' option. It'd make line drawing so much more pleasant.

I've decided to quit Postwaste, at least in its current form. The daily format of this blog and the formal feeling it's taken on have led me to stray from my original intention, which was simply to sketch. Instead, I find myself trying to circumvent the fundamentals of drawing and get right to the flashy bits. This blog has been a great exercise in concepts like color, values, and rendering, but ultimately I need to spend more time on the basics.

For the foreseeable future I'll be sticking to anatomical studies and drawing from life. I want to build a strong foundation in traditional media, which is something I've always neglected in favor of a digital approach.

I expect I'll still post here from time to time. For now, though, so long! Thanks for following my little experiment.

Lately I've been listening to an album called Moon Colony Bloodbath. It's a collaborative work between the Mountain Goats and John Vanderslice which tells the tale of a man employed by a secret organ harvesting operation on the moon and his descent into madness. My last three entries here have been based off the songs from this album, and there'll be three more coming up. Here we see Bobby Beausoleil out in the desert past the LA County line, burying a canister in the middle of the night.
